Monarch Caterpillar Molting

Monarch caterpillar molting

Caterpillars have very small eyes and don't see very well. They use their antennae to feel their way around.

The Monarch butterfly caterpillar eats so much that their skins gets too small for their bodies.

The skins splits open and falls off.

A new layer of skin is right under the new skin. This happens 5 times.

Scientists call this shedding or molting.
