Monarch Chrysalis

Monarch chrysalis Monarch Chrysalis

The caterpillar wriggles until its skin splits open for the last time. The caterpillar stops moving and the black and yellow strips turn into a special covering called the pupa or chrysalis.

The chrysalis protects the Monarch during metamorphosis.

In a short time, the chrysalis turns into a hard green case with golden spots.

The Monarch stays in the chrysalis for about two weeks.
